Mormon Park
Also known as Florence Park
Located on the west side of the street between Mormon Street and State Street (8300 to 8400) N. 30th (GPS: 41.33564,-95.96093) or 412010N 0955737W
Mormon Park/Florence Park is a one-block square located at (and considered) the center of Florence since its early beginnings. The center of the park has a gazebo, and a Historic Marker is located to the north (and next to 30th Street) to tell some of the history of Florence and Historic Winter Quarters.
During the time when Winter Quarters was located here, the northeastern area was the location of the home of Brigham Young.
The gazebo has been rebuilt a few times but it reflects a history reaching back to Florence's earliest days. The Florence Band played on the gazebo to entertain the crowds that gathered for some entertainment, see friends, and have a relaxing time.
During our annual Florence Days celebration, the park has been the center of activity, and has decorations showing off our history.
The historic Keirle House is located across Mormon Street to the south.
The Bank of Florence and the historic Mormon Bridge Tollbooth are across State Street to the north. Just a block away to the east on State Street you can visit the historic Florence Firehouse and a reconstruction of the original Florence City Hall, now used as a community center for large events, and many performances put on by the Florentine Players.
The park is also where the annual Tree Lighting ceremony takes place (generally the 1st Saturday in December). The event starts with an open house at the Bank of Florence from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M.
